Former Barton Peveril student Lewis Croney will feature on a Channel 4 documentary, Working Class White Men, tonight at 10pm. Award-winning rapper Professor Green is behind the documentary, which focuses on working class white males and their struggles to succeed despite their deprived backgrounds. The documentary follows six young men over a six month period, including Lewis’ journey to Cambridge whilst studying at Barton Peveril.
Lewis achieved incredible results at College, attaining A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, which allowed him to begin studying Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge this academic year. Lewis worked incredibly hard and utilised the support available at Barton Peveril to earn his place and follow his dream, competing amongst 1,400 applicants for this highly competitive course.
Principal Jonathan Prest, speaking highly of our successful student, says: “Lewis has done spectacularly well for himself since joining sixth form college. His secondary school was under-performing against national benchmarks and has subsequently been closed. Few students ever went to University from the school, let alone to Cambridge. At Barton Peveril College he was able to spread his wings, meet other students with similar ability and develop his ambitions. Through our links with the University outreach team our students were offered talks, practice interviews and even model supervisions, all of which Lewis took advantage of. His is a real example of what bright, hard-working, single-minded people from any background can achieve.”
We hope Lewis continues to thrive at Cambridge, furthering his success and pursuing all of his academic and career aspirations.
