For second year student Chloe Hawkins, volunteering has become a way of life. The 17-year-old former Woodlands pupil wants to work with people who have special educational needs and has volunteered at every level from early years through primary and secondary school to adults.
Chloe juggles her new placement with the Rose Road Association in Southampton with a hectic college timetable, weekly volunteering at Quilley School in Eastleigh, and dropping into the nearby Hexagon Centre for vulnerable adults on her days off.
“I can’t describe what volunteering gives me, it’s just that great feeling that comes from helping someone else,” says Chloe.
“It’s often the simplest things that make the most difference, like taking the time to sit and play a game. Volunteering has just become something I do.”

Initiative and perseverance certainly paid off for Land Rover enthusiast Max Falstein who headed off on the work experience placement of his dreams when he spent a week at the iconic vehicle manufacturer’s product engineering centre in Warwickshire.
Max’s sights had been set on one of just 20 places offered by Jaguar Land Rover for more than two years. Having grown up watching his parents build kit cars and with at least one Land Rover in the driveway since birth, he started restoring his own vehicle when he was 13 and hopes to follow a career in automotive engineering and design.
