Former student Ross Thomas has been named the highest achieving A Level Business Studies candidate in England and Wales by exam board WJEC.
Ross (18) returned home for Christmas to find a letter from the chief executive of WJEC congratulating him on gaining 397 out of a possible 400 marks in this summer’s exams which were sat by 1,576 people. He also received a £50 prize and a certificate.
The former Brookfield pupil is now studying Economics at Cambridge; a place he secured with four A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and, of course, Business Studies.

A 99% A* to E pass rate coupled with an increase in the number of students achieving one or more A* grades at A Level made 2011 another outstanding year for exam results at Barton Peveril.
More than half of the grades were A* to B and 15% of students achieved one or more A* grades, an increase of 4% on last year. The number of subjects recording 100% pass rates rose to 32.
A record number of students secured places at universities including Oxford and Cambridge, many helped by their success in the Extended Project, a major piece of independent study highly regarded by universities and employers. Barton Peveril trialled the qualification in 2008 and now enters more candidates than any other sixth form college in the country.
