England squad for Jack

Aspiring professional footballer Jack Odam is celebrating his success on the pitch after being selected for the England Colleges Football national team.

The 16-year-old AFC Totton and Hampshire striker is a student at Barton Peveril and competed against players from sixth form and further education colleges at regional and national level to gain his place in the elite squad run by British Colleges Sport and The Football Association. He was also top goal scorer in the FA Youth Cup after playing three qualifying rounds this season.

A football fanatic since he was six years old, Jack is one of the youngest players in the U19 squad and hopes his selection will lead to greater things.

“Some of the other players are almost four years older than me so I’m hoping that I’ll get noticed,” says Jack, who is studying for A-levels in English, Law, Sociology and PE.

“Football is in my blood and I’m really looking forward to playing for England in the home game against Australia at the end of January. The whole thing is such a brilliant opportunity; happy days!”
