2011: another outstanding year

A 99% A* to E pass rate coupled with an increase in the number of students achieving one or more A* grades at A Level made 2011 another outstanding year for exam results at  Barton Peveril.

More than half of the grades were A* to B and 15% of students achieved one or more A* grades, an increase of 4% on last year. The number of subjects recording 100% pass rates rose to 32.

A record number of students secured places at universities including Oxford and Cambridge, many helped by their success in the Extended Project, a major piece of independent study highly regarded by universities and employers. Barton Peveril trialled the qualification in 2008 and now enters more candidates than any other sixth form college in the country.

Barton Peveril principal, Jonathan Prest, commented: “Results day marks the culmination of two years’ hard work by students, their teachers and the parents who support them. I’m immensely proud that Barton Peveril is sending so many well qualified young people on to university and employer training schemes.
“The fact that so many have seen their university places confirmed in a year when there is such huge pressure on numbers is a tremendous accolade. I am also thrilled by the achievements of those who have secured apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities which are also at a premium in the current economic climate.

“I’m delighted by this year’s outstanding academic success, but the icing on the cake is the knowledge that the enrichment activities these students enjoy alongside their academic studies ensure that they leave Barton Peveril not only well qualified, but as well-rounded, confident individuals too.”
